After 30 years, Milwaukee's excellent new music ensemble presents the world premiere of one of its largest commissions ever, a highly theatrical piece about the rise, fall and resurrection of the North American bison. Buffalo Nation (Bison bison), by Milwaukee native Jerome Kitzke and librettist Kathleen Masterson, is scored for one singer, four actors, a 28-member sound effects chorus and 11 instruments including accordion and banjo. The piece addresses aspects of our nation's non-static history and identity. It is highly recommended.
