A Night of Worship with Hillsong Live

Contemporary Christian music has taken many forms since its inception in the late 1960s. One of the most popular formats has become contemporary praise and worship, music previously confined to the charismatic movement but that has now evolved to arenas and other venues—such as State Fair main stages. Hillsong Live, a congregational expression of worship originating out of Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia, remains among the most potent leaders of this movement, with melodic, hook-filled songs performed by a full band with backing singers and a feel-good vibe that crosses denominations. “Mighty to Save” might be the group’s most famous recording, but nearly every song this collective plays is infused with passion, joy and spirit that makes it difficult not to sing along. In July, Hillsong Live released its latest album and DVD, Glorious Ruins, which was recorded in London and Sydney.
