With a little help from the Internet, U.K.-based Arctic Monkeys exploded onto the global music scene in 2005, courtesy of “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor,” an adrenaline-fueled burst of pure post-punk energy that the influential British music magazine NME ranked at number 7 on their list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” Yes, it really was that good. The single found a home on the band’s 2006 debut release, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. That album went on to win the 2006 Mercury Prize, an annual award given to the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Since their rather auspicious beginnings, Arctic Monkeys have worked hard to continually redefine their approach to songwriting. Both 2009’s Humbug and 2011’s Suck It and See found the band embracing a more muscular, rock-oriented sound, while band leader Alex Turner has stated that the group’s most recent album, A.M. (2013), was influenced by a bevy of hip-hop, R&B and soul acts. Such a mixture of unpredictable influences makes for an utterly joyous live show. See you on the dance floor.

Would white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan pose the same threat they do now if a mainstream Republican were president instead of Donald Trump?
