ENSEMBLE MUSICAL OFFERING (EMO), Milwaukee's Midwest Bande for Early Music, brings light to some of Georg Frederic Handel’s best known chamber music for an all-Handel Weekend in Milwaukee including March 29. Musical Offering’s Hallmarks of Handel concert is set between the two productions of the Florentine Opera’s Julius Caesar on March 28 and March 30 to give Handel lovers wide exposure to some of the best loved chamber music written by the imminent German composer.

Hallmarks of Handel will be held at 8 PM on Saturday, March 29 at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, 818 E. Juneau Ave, Milwaukee.  It is preceded by a 7 PM lecture and auction.  EMO will repeat the concert on Sunday, March 30 the Unitarian Society in Madison, WI at 2 PM.

Living and composing in London in the first half of the 18th century, Handel, a reputed rival of J.S. Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, was not only noted for his compositions in opera, but for his extraordinary chamber music.  EMO will perform two of Handel’s Opus 3 Concerti Grossi, published in 1734 ~ HWV 315 & 317, Nos. 4 and 6, as well as the G Major Suite from his Water Musick, HWV 350.  Also included is his Sinfonia for Bassoon and strings, HWV 388, and his Keyboard Concerto in B-Flat Major, Op. 4 no. 2, HWV 290.  The keyboard concertos invented by Handel were appropriately used in his oratorios to supplement acts between singers on stage at the London theatres or in chamber concerts.
