Jason Moran Fats Waller Dance Party
Acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Jason Moran and a select group of musicians will modernize “Fats” Waller’s rhythmic stride style sound into contemporary dance music that will have the joint at South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center (SMPAC) jumpin’ on April 26.
Jason Moran has been described as “jazz’s wild card, a probing conceptualist who transforms everything he touches into a bracingly contemporary statement” (SF Jazz). He is the Kennedy Center’s artistic advisor for jazz and the recipient of a 2010 MacArthur Fellowship. He has received several “Rising Star” awards from Downbeat magazine’s critics’ polls and has released eight albums, both solo and with his group, the Bandwagon. Moran is known for collaborations among jazz and the visual arts, dance, documentary film and more.
