 The 6th edition of the international Okka Festival of improvised music comes to Milwaukee! This year's program will feature 3 of the world's great pianists; Jim Baker (USA), Agusti Fernandez (Spain), Elisabeth Harnik (Austria). Other performing artists are: Kent Kessler, Brian Labycz, Joe McPhee, Joe Morris, Paal Nilssen-Love, Jen Paulson, Dave Rempis, Ken Vandermark, Mars Williams, and Nate Wooley. All evening performances will now take place in the main room of The Sugar Maple (441 E. Lincoln) with 4 sets of music held at that location Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; following the Saturday afternoon concert held at The Palm Tavern (2989 South Kinnickinnic Avenue) there will be a Music Walk comprised of a succession of solo performances taking place along South Kinnickinnic Avenue back to The Sugar Maple, these concerts will be held at Anodyne coffee shop, Rush-Mor Records, and ACME Records; each night will feature a different dj spinning music from their collections, showcasing the spectrum of popular music interests connected to this year's Okka Fest. 

Over the course of 3 days and nights, listeners will hear 17 sets of music performed by 14 international artists in a variety of contexts: long standing groups (Boneshaker, the Joe McPhee/Paal Nilssen-Love Duo, the Chicago Reed Quartet, the Ken Vandermark/Nate Wooley Duo, the Agusti Fernandez, Joe Morris, Nate Wooley Trio); solos (Elisabeth Harnick, Mars Williams, Nate Wooley, Jim Baker, Agusti Fernandez, Brian Labycz); and first time encounters (Joe McPhee/Joe Morris duo, Kent Kessler/Joe Morris/Jen Paulson trio, Elisabeth Harnik/Paal Nilssen-Love duo, Brian Labycz/Joe McPhee/Jen Paulson trio). Okka Fest 6, with its unique combination of great musicians, intimate venues with excellent acoustics, extraordinary atmosphere and programming, is sure to be one of the outstanding musical events of 2014, demonstrating that the excitement of improvisation is meant for everyone.
