One of America’s most acclaimed portraitists, David Lenz made his 30-year career dedicated to championing people on the periphery of society. His chosen subjects are those commonly ignored by most artists: children in Milwaukee’s inner city, children with intellectual disabilities, and small-town rural farmers.

His painting style is realism, and his method is meticulous -- he creates images that simultaneously astound us yet encourage us to empathize with those facing uncertain futures beyond their control.

His realism is goes beyond being a technique, but a mirror to the society in which we live.
