Sad news for Wisconsin sports fans- UW Basketball Coach Bo Ryan has announced in an official statement that the 2015-2016 season will be his last.
Bo Ryan coached Wisconsin to back to back Final Four appearances over the last two seasons, which is the same amount as every other coach in the program's history combined. Over the course of his illustrious career with the Badgers, he has accrued a 357-125 record, and established a once middle-tier team as a perennial Big 10 powerhouse.
Here's the Badger Men's Basketball post from Instagram:
It's too bad Bo couldn't lead the Badgers past Duke in last year's title game, so that he could exit on the highest of high notes. Regardless, it's still safe to say that he'll go down as a legend in the program.
Ryan has pegged longtime assistant Greg Gard as his successor, and will likely use the upcoming season to groom Gard for the position.
UPDATE: There have been rumblings that University of Virginia Coach Tony Bennett is being considered as Ryan's successor. It would be an unwise move for UW to bring in an expensive replacement rather than following Bo's advice to hand over the reigns to Gard.
