The Safe House, the iconic spy-themed Milwaukee bar and restaurant, has been sold to the Marcus Restaurant Group as of today. The previous owners, Dave and Shuana Baldwin, have retired. They owned the restaurant for 49 years.
The restaurant opened in 1966 after the Cold War caused a wave of interest in spies and spy culture among Americans. It soon became a local favorite and a nationally known establishment even being featured on the Travel Channel.
The immediate changes to the restaurant under the Marcus Restaurant Group will include tweaking menu items to include fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and adding a variety of craft cocktails. This seems to be an attempt to appeal more to the changing tastes of young restaurant goers.
The restaurant will also offer special birthday packages for all age groups, and packages tailored to Bachelor and Bachelorette parties. Other changes will be kept secret at this time.
