Billiards and a popular singer in adult African-American music come together for a matinee on Sunday, May 31 as T.K. Soul performs for the awards ceremony for a number of pool leagues at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The Louisiana native born Terence Kimble August came up from backing '90s R&B harmonizers H-Town and fellow Southern soul/blues practitioner Willie Clayton; he now fills a niche of his own as the sort of suave, nostalgic lover man (with a bit of philanderer about his persona) that has become something of an anachronism in more youth-oriented urban pop. Soul has a way of gliding smoothly over the minimalist synthetic tracks that define today's Southern soul. He should provide a suitable complement to acknowledgements of the camaraderie and skill that can manifest when men and women brandish cues to sink colorful balls into the pockets of a green felt table.
