Wisconsin’s State Parks are wonderful, but we have some smaller County Parks that are boast-worthy as well. Here is a countdown of my current favorites—and to give you some more Off The Beaten Path ideas.
5. Sandy Knoll (Washington County)

What enchanted forest trails! A small beach and swimming area, basketball court and several picnic shelters to boot.
4. Muskego (Waukesha County)

I discovered this little gem just a couple weeks ago. My companion and I enjoyed the entire quiet park to ourselves on a Sunday night. The following morning, we strolled down to look at the swimming pond being enjoyed by geese and their fuzzy goslings.
3. Whitnall (Milwaukee County)

This one has flowers—lots and lots of them courtesy of Boerner Botanical Gardens. You have the best of both worlds, with live music to enjoy during the summer concert series and gardens to walk through for a meditative experience. You also have the bonus of the Wehr Nature Center.
