David Mamet’s Speed the Plow makes its way to an out-of-the-way local venue this month as Root River Theatre Company launches a production at the 170-seat capacity Aviation Theater inside the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport Hotel. The deluxe airport hotel serves as an interesting space for a production of Mamet’s skewering of the business of Hollywood. Directed by Root River President and General Manager Michael Schottle, the show runs for one weekend only. It concerns a man who has recently been promoted to head of production of a major Hollywood film studio. He’s given the opportunity to work with a major a-list movie star. An attractive woman and the possibility of a more serious project involving the effects of radiation complicate things for the producer in a comedy that casts a glance into Mamet’s late ’80s take on the business of Hollywood.
Root River Theatre Company’s production of Speed the Plow runs May 15-17 at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport on 6401 S. 13th Street. For more information, visit rootrivertheatre.com.
