It takes a lot to make a big impression at Milwaukee Comedy Fest. There’s an overwhelming tidal wave of people who are working very, very hard to be very, very funny. Matt Griffo has managed the tricky business of being funny in a way that feels so extremely casual and rhythmic. A guy trying to be funny with a microphone and nothing else runs the risk of seeming awkward and desperate. If you’ve got a piano up there with you, the desperation fades. Even when things don’t hit, you’re still up there hanging out with a piano that doesn’t have to speak with words to make an impact. Griffo’s mix of wit and piano has served him well. This weekend the Chicago-based performer returns to Milwaukee for a show he’s calling My Brother’s Friend Jerome. It’s a mixture of music and stories that will take an intimate stage underground downtown Milwaukee this coming weekend.
Matt Griffo and My Brother’s Friend Jerome take the stage April 25 at the Underground Collaborative on 161 W. Wisconsin Ave. For ticket reservations, visit milwaukeecomedy.com.
