The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is a courtroom drama told featuring biblical characters in a place beyond time. Judas is on trial in a courtroom that also features appearanced by Mother Teresa, Saint Monica, Sigmund Freud, Simon the Zealot and Satan.
This coming weekend’s traditional pagan fertility celebration is also kind of a big deal for the Christians, which makes now a perfect time for the UW-Sheboygan production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’ comic drama. The courtroom story ties historic perspectives into a question on the nature of forgiveness and accountability. I’ve seen it produced a couple of times before and it’s a very provocative work that would find a good home on any university stage.
The UW-Sheboygan production which runs this coming weekend also features a special Saturday, April 4 special pre-show panel discussion on: “Jesus and Judas: Forgiveness and Culpability.” Panelists include Dr. Rich Edwards, UW-Sheboygan Religion/Philosophy, Pastor Jim Hollister of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. and University Theatre Director Dr. Thomas Campbell.
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot runs April 2-4 at the University Theatre on 1 University Dr. in Sheboygan. For more information, visit sheboygan.uwc.edu.
