Three new murals will be unveiled during a two-day Mural Festival at Black Cat Alley Sept. 22-23.
Ken Brown, David Najib Kasir and Byada Meredith, all Milwaukee-based artists, were selected by a six-person jury to each create a new mural. Brown is an artist, educator and public speaker. Kasir is a contemporary oil-painter. Meredith, a Milwaukee resident who is originally from Thailand, is a muralist who focuses much of her work on navigating new spaces and experiences.
Other new installations on display in Black Cat Alley that weekend include new wayfinding signage, garden updates and recent works placed there during summer. A total of six new public artworks have been released in Black Cat Alley during 2018.
“This has been an exciting year of happenings in the Alley,” said East Side Business Improvement District Executive Director Kristen Godfrey in a press release. “It is a place that stimulates conversations and benefits the whole community.”
The Mural Festival will run in conjunction with Doors Open Milwaukee. The celebration also includes dance performances, food trucks and the finale of the AlleyWayz concert series.
