“Joseph Friebert: Painter and Parent” Aug. 25 Museum of Wisconsin Art 205 Veterans Ave., West Bend
Joseph Friebert (1908-2002) was one of Wisconsin’s foremost artists, as well as a beloved teacher. But he was also a parent. His life and career will be the focus of a talk by his daughter, Susan Friebert Rossen, at MOWA on Saturday, Aug. 25. A former publisher at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Detroit Institute of Arts, Friebert Rossen will combine personal insights with her own art background to give you a multidimensional look at her father’s life and work. Kids Green Art Contest Aug. 25 Milwaukee County Zoo 10005 W. Bluemound Road
The theme of this year’s contest hosted by the Zoological Society of Milwaukee was “Animals in Asia.” Children that participated in the contest learned about animals as well as conservation while creating pieces of art using discarded materials such as cans, bottles, paper, cardboard and more. Kids of all artistic levels turned trash into treasure during this month, and they were divided by age category and a winner chosen from each. Kids Green Art Contest creations will be judged, prizes awarded, and their works will be displayed at the Milwaukee County Zoo on Saturday, Aug. 25.
