The 2018 “Ride for Renewables” is a group bike ride hosted by the Clean Power Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin to highlight the dirty nature of coal and the importance of switching to clean energy. The Ride for Renewables will be an excellent opportunity to earn about power in Oak Creek while and getting exercise and having fun.
The ride will start at the We Energies Trail on 7 Mile Road (east of Douglas/32) where participants will hear from some of the neighbors to We Energies’ and MGE’s Oak Creek coal-fired power plants. Riders will then travel past coal-filled train cars to the turn-around point where there will be opportunities to hear other speakers, see the power plants as well as the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline, and enjoy refreshments before returning to the starting point. The ride will last around 1.5 hours including stops and talks. This is an easy, relatively flat ride on packed gravel trails. Length is approximately 6 miles round trip.
After the ride, there will be a pizza party at the Eco-Justice Center where attendees can see the Center’s renewable energy generators, including solar panels and a wind turbine. Participants are encouraged to stay for “Bonk in the Barn,” a free monthly series featuring musical and literary performances, which begins at 6 PM (doors open at 5:30).
