Something stirs beneath the peat moss of the gray-green Irish countryside. In From the Dark a young couple, lost on the back roads near sundown, seek shelter in a farmhouse from a menacing creature seen at first only in the flickering shadows—a tall thing that fears only light. The woman proves to be the smarter, stronger half of the couple in a film by director Conor McMahon with echoes of F.W. Murnaus’s classic, Nosferatu.
