The buddy genre puts on the glitz when police officer Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) attempts to protect Daniella (Sofia Vergara), the spoiled widow of a drug boss and a potential witness against the cartel. Set in Texas, Cooper and Daniella race from border to border, pursued by corrupt cops and murderous thugs. Cooper struggles to keep her charge out of sight while glamorous Daniella is determined to make an entrance wherever she goes, but it’s the film’s gal-pal formula that suffers the worst blow, drowning in a sea of shallow stereotypes.
