Inspired by events half the world away but set (and partially filmed) in Milwaukee, Pilot Error packs a love story, a chronicle of self-actualization and a corporate-conspiracy thriller into one feature film. The protagonist, Nicola (nice performance by Kate Thomsen), fears flying, falls in love with her fear-of-flying counselor and doggedly pursues the truth behind a missing airliner. She is driven by guilt: Her cancellation of a trip to Paris prompted her disappointed friend to buy a ticket on the doomed passenger plane. The Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Deborah Staples is in the cast and Mitchell International Airport, with its distinctive concourse (Renaissance Books!), is featured. Nicola works at a troubled daily paper recently purchased by a chain (sound familiar?) but chases her story via a video blog. Pilot Error is directed and co-written by Joe Anderson, who has performed with Second City. Shown at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., March 30, Ridge Cinema.
