The Milwaukee Craft Brewery League is the organizing force behind Drink Brew City Week, a line-up of pub crawls, tap takeovers, competitions, a homebrew event, as well as wiffleball and cribbage competitions that takes place July 26-Aug. 5.
The league is composed of 18 local craft brewers that believe it’s in their best interest to collaborate on getting their brands out there.
“Our goal was to work together to promote local craft breweries and transform Milwaukee into a destination for beer tourism,” says Matt McCulloch, league member and owner of D14 Brewery & Pub. “We were all disappointed that the current Milwaukee Beer Week was being organized by a distributor and was focused on their brands which had nothing to do with Milwaukee made beer.”
In 2017, Milwaukee was being considered for a craft beer bloggers convention, and a grass roots effort that included the Milwaukee Craft Brewery League helped make Craft Brewery Week happen and brought the bloggers to town. This year they’ve rebranded their collaboration as Drink Brew City Week.
The week closes out with the Project Terrior Beer Festival and Street Party on Aug. 5 at D14 Brewery & Pub, with beer tasting and live music from 1-7 p.m. Participating breweries are challenged to make a beer using the same ingredients.
“We all use the exact amount of the exact same ingredients and we make our beers as differently as we can. There are no additions allowed, we can use our ingredients however we choose, and we can select whichever yeast we want. People are always stunned at the uniqueness of each beer.”
