A longtime resident of Milwaukee’s East Side, Nino’s Italian Bakery & Deli relocated to Downtown Menomonee Falls in 2000, settling in a charming building at the intersection of Main Street and Appleton Avenue (N88 W16683 Main St.). There, the family owned and operated business continued to produce the freshly baked breads, pastries, desserts and dishes that had attracted loyal customers across town for three decades. Today, visitors can expect display cases filled with the sweet and the savory (though mostly sweet) and loaves of marble rye, Italian, Sicilian and French breads—depending on the day of course. The space itself is comfortable and welcoming with a couch and a simple dining area where customers can relax and enjoy a sweet Lemon Genovese, a thickly sliced biscotti, or one of Nino’s popular sandwiches. Served on soft Italian bread, Nino’s tuna salad sub is light, simply seasoned and free of excessive mayo, while the hot meatball sub features delicious home-style meatballs bathed in mild marinara sauce and covered with the perfect amount of melted mozzarella. Nino’s selection of grilled paninis offers a bit more variety and more Italian flavors with the Italian pepper steak, the spicy smoked turkey and the bruschetta melt.
