If we love anything in Milwaukee, it’s a celebration of holidays and festivals…and beer. Well, and cheese. And sausage. Maybe food in general. Toss in some wine. Okay…let me start over: Festivals and holidays are just some of the things we love in Milwaukee.
Didn’t get enough Easter? Enjoy a second Easter brunch this week. Can’t wait for festivals to start? Help crown the City of Festivals queen. From National Youth HIV Awareness Day to a celebration of spring gardening, Cream City is hopping with options; but first, let’s read a letter from a bear not willing to share his fur at any party.
Dear Ruthie,
My “husbear” wants a three-way. We both enjoyed them before we met, but now I don’t think I want to share him. We’re attracted to the same men (bears), but I’m not comfortable with the idea. It sounds hot but I’m not as into it as he is. Part of me thinks I should give in but then I think that’s a bad idea. What do you think?
—Bear Hunter
Dear Hunter,
CALL ME! I’ll be your Goldilocks, honey, and try out all of your beds…and all of your bears. No, no. That won’t work, will it? (Seriously, will it?)
I actually get this question a lot, and I always say the same things when it comes to inviting a third party into your bedroom: Think about it, think about it, think about it. And when you’re done, think about it some more.
If you’re not sure about this, then do not do it. That’s a perfect sign that you and your relationship are not ready for this. Explain to your bear that you have doubts and that he needs to table this discussion until you feel you’re ready for it. You may never feel this is right for your relationship, and that’s fine. Tell you hubby that you both need to be 100% on the same page with this, and you’re just not there yet.
April 8: ‘A Passion for Gardens: The Garden Conservancy and its Work’ at Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum (2220 N. Terrace Ave.): Got a green thumb? How about a soft spot for Mother Nature? Carlo Balistrieri, vice president of preservation for the Garden Conservancy, offers this lecture for the Mr. Green Jeans in all of us. See gardenconservancy.org for more.
April 9: ‘Capps Off to Hollywood’ at Sunset Playhouse (800 Elm Grove Road): Local divo (that’s a male diva, people) Ryan Capp salutes the songs of the silver screen during this one-man cabaret. From Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly to Jimmy Cagney and Sammy Davis Jr., the Brew Town entertainer covers them all in this toe-tapping tribute. Purchase your $20 ticket at sunsetplayhouse.com.
April 10: Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band at Turner Hall Ballroom (1040 N. Fourth St.): The King of Pop returns (sort of) with this celebration of all things Michael (minus the chimp and Peter Pan fetish). From The Jackson 5 to “Thriller” and beyond, this sequined-glove spectacular honors the man in the mirror through song and dance. See pabsttheater.org for $18 tickets to the all-ages event. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the concert starting at 8.
April 11: National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day at Milwaukee Public Library (814 W. Wisconsin Ave.): Join the team at the Sixteenth Street Community Health Center as they offer free HIV rapid-results testing, prevention information and more. Visit the central library’s first floor community room from noon to 4 p.m.
April 12: Women’s Out to (Easter) Brunch at Milwaukee LGBT Community Center (110 N. Market St.): Can’t get enough Easter? Break out your bunny ears and join the ladies of Milwaukee’s Lesbian community during the final Women’s Out to Brunch. That’s right…this is the last brunch of its kind, so make it an eye-opener to remember. Bring a dish to pass to the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. get-together. Meet new friends, usher in spring and enjoy another Easter-bunny brunch all at the same time.
April 12: Miss Gay City of Festivals 2015 at LaCage Night Club (801 S. Second St.): Milwaukee is known as the City of Festivals, so why not throw a drag pageant to commemorate that fact? I’m not sure why either, but it’s a great reason to get dressed up, have fun with friends and enjoy a great pageant. Doors open to the glitzy gala at 9 p.m. with a 10 p.m. curtain time.
