Dear Ruthie,
I’m attracted to bad boys. If a young guy’s done jail time, has warrants, living in a halfway house or is just sort of a rude a-hole, I’m all in. My friends say I’m crazy because all these guys are in their 20s and I’m in my mid 60s, but I don’t care. They also say the guys are taking advantage of me as they have no money and I pay for everything.
Sometimes these men say they’re straight, and I let them move in with me until they can get back on their feet. Sometimes they’re “gay for pay,” and I pay. Hey, we both get what we want, right? My friends also worry these guys (we used to call them “rough trade” in my day) are going to rob me and/or beat me up, but I’m careful about this.
Think this is a problem, a fetish or something else?
I love your column,
Horny Hal
Dear Horn Dog,
I hate to say it, sugar, but you’re thinking with your crotch and not your brain. Start using your big head more and your little head less. Your friends love you and are right for being concerned for your wellbeing.
You’re attracted to bad boys, and that’s fine. What’s not fine is putting yourself in situations that can harm you physically, mentally or even financially. Befriend these guys all you want but stop giving these troublemakers money and a place to stay.
Do some soul searching as well. Are you truly attracted to troublesome men or do you simply like the feeling you get by “saving” them. Is taking care of them the actual high you’re chasing? If so, you may want to seek professional help to understand what’s going on in your head as well as your heart.
