Looking to jazz up your social life? Hit the Brew City LGBT scene! From drag to dance and from food to fun, this community knows how to party. Toss in some theater and mix in some muscle, and you’ve a got a weekend for the books. This week, try to hit three LGBT hot spots! Until then, let’s read an email from someone who finds the number three a bit disturbing.
Dear Ruthie,
I have a friend who is really into three-ways. He bitches about being single yet only pursues hookups with couples. How’s he going to find a man if he’s too busy hooking up with twosomes? We have tried to talk to him, but he just rolls his eyes. We can’t even go out with him socially because he spends half the time looking for threesomes. What can we say to get him to see the monogamous light?
Thanks,
Vanilla Lover
Dear Double Stuff,
I see how your friend’s buzzing about singlehood drives you batty, but it’s time to mind your own beeswax. If your amigo wants to play the rusty trombone with the entire band, so be it. He’s a big boy and he’s going to make his own decisions. You’ve offered input, now let that little slut be the tight end for the whole team if he wants. Keep his (and your) sex life out of your friendship and let him fly his freak flag at his discretion.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Aug. 13: Opening night of The Seeds of Banquo as Soulstice Theatre (3770 S. Pennsylvania Ave.): Local theater icon Angela Iannone writes and directs this stirring story of celebrated 19th-century actor Edwin Booth. Running through Aug. 23, the intense drama is produced in association with Theater RED, which strives to provide “substantial roles for women.” See theaterred.com for show dates, times and ticket information.
Aug. 14: Drag Dance at Quarters Rock ’n Roll Palace (900 E. Center St.): Grab your heels and get ready to party the night away with this themed event that takes gender bending to new levels. Not only is there not a cover charge, but the first 30 folks through the door get a free can of beer! (Now that’s what I call motivation!) Come in drag or come as you are to the 10 p.m. dance that includes appearances by local femme fatales and DJ Rocka.
Aug. 15: Trans Youth Group at Milwaukee LGBT Community Center (1110 N. Market St.): This educational and social support group for transgender and non-conforming youth meets the third Saturday of every month from 4 to 5 p.m. Created for those between the ages of 13 and 24, the moderated group strives to create a safe spot for those with questions and concerns as well as those looking for a friendly face. Contact Charles at 414-292-3068 for more information.
Aug. 16: Wisconsin Rainbow Families Annual Potluck Picnic at Gordon Park (2828 N. Humboldt Blvd.): Belt the kids in the car and pack up a blanket because the annual summer potluck for LGBT families is back! For only $5 per family and a dish to pass, you can enjoy a potluck buffet, with second helpings of laughter and support from likeminded folks. Don’t forget to bring swimsuits because they’ll be a splash pad for little sunbathers. Soak in the fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Aug. 16: The Eighth Annual LGBT Picnic at Jackson Park (37th and Forrest Home Ave., Area #2): Looking for more sunny surprises this week? Don’t miss this free picnic! Open to all from noon to 8 p.m., this fun-fest features games, food, prizes and more. Hosted by the outreach team from the Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers, the picnic’s special guests include the Abbey of the Brew City Sisters. Get off your keester and park it at the park!
Aug. 16: Physique Championships at Wisconsin State Fair (640 S. 84th St., Bank Mutual Amphitheater). If the Wisconsin State Fair has a Gay hot spot, this is it!
