Eau Claire's most famous band has weighed in on Wisconsin's gubernatorial race. In a statement yesterday, Bon Iver endorsed former state assembly member Kelda Roys in the Tuesday, Aug. 14 Democratic primary.
“Bon Iver is proud to endorse Kelda Roys for Governor of Wisconsin,” the band wrote in a statement emailed to fans yesterday. “Kelda is the young progressive voice our home state needs right now. Her integrity's been proven through her political and business experience, and she's the best candidate to restore the Wisconsin Idea while forging a better future.”
Roys already has the backing of several celebrities, including Sarah Silverman, Bradley Whitford and Jane Lynch. An indie-rocker's endorsement might not move the needle all that much, but in a crowded race against candidates with low name recognition, every little bit helps.
Let the "Justin Vernon is going to run for governor one day" jokes/earnest speculation commence.
