So far IshDARR has divided his time between soulful conscious rap and straight-up bangers, but there’s still plenty of territory for him to explore. For his latest track, “Sugar,” the 18-year-old Milwaukee rapper dips a toe into dance music. Produced by rising Dallas artist Medasin, the track begins as a smooth, fairly straightforward rap&B number in the “Poetic Justice” mold, but then a candied house beat kicks in around the minute mark, and the dance floor takes over. It’s a new look for IshDARR, but a winning one—this may be the catchiest track he’s released yet. It’s catching on, too. Just 15 hours after he posted it to Soundcloud, that track is already nearing 9,000 plays.
