It's been 13 years since Conor Oberst's punk band Desaparecidos released its debut album, Read Music / Speak Spanish, a politically charged record steeped in Bush-era dread, and now they're back with a follow-up: Payola, an equally charged record fueled by another decade's worth of political anxiety. That album is streaming today on NPR's First Listen, which should give fans plenty of time to get acquainted with it before Desaparecidos come to Milwaukee for their just-announced show Monday, Sept. 14 at the Turner Hall Ballroom. It's a long-overdue one: It'll be the band's first Milwaukee show in 14 years, when they played the long-defunct Globe opening for Cursive.
General admission tickets are $18 in advance, $20 day of show, and go on sale Friday, June 19 at noon.
