Milwaukee songwriter Todd Umhoefer relocated to California last year, but he didn’t let the move interrupt his Old Earth project, which has carried on in the new locale with a new cast of collaborators. This week he released his latest offering, …until they’re called, a concise three-song suite that features all of Umhoefer’s usual hallmark: knotty guitarwork, a captivating sense of place, and lyrics that read like jumbled scripture. Nobody else makes records remotely like this, so it’s always a pleasure visiting the unusual world that Umhoefer creates for himself in the studio.
