This week on The Disclaimer: All hands on deck! Some guy with a podcast insulted a historic symbol of our city’s roots, values and traditions, so we as a city must come together and respond by… washing our hands of that symbol? Is Milwaukee really so thin-skinned that it can’t withstand a good-natured ribbing about its unconventional flag? Apparently so, because ever since designer Roman Mars’ March TED Talk mocked Milwaukee’s flag, there’s been a renewed push to overhaul our quirky banner. On this week’s episode, Ryan Schleicher, Matt Wild and I go into detail about why those efforts are profoundly stupid. Milwaukee is blessed to have a memorable flag that conveys both a sense of humor and a sense of history, so why not embrace it?
Then, in the show’s final stretch, we discuss the surprisingly good new Violent Femmes EP, which has us considering that band’s place in the Milwaukee music scene, and how the scene’s attitude toward the trio has changed over the years. Also addressed: Summerfest’s AWOL final Marcus Amphitheater headliner, and the absurdity of the Billboard Music Awards. It’s a good episode; stream it below, and as usual, feel free to join the conversation on our Facebook page, and subscribe to us on iTunes.
