The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reports 2,319 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin on Wednesday.
DHS enhanced the level of reporting on their website today to include a new look at overall percent positive rate. Previously, the percent positive reported on the DHS website was a measure of the percent of people who tested positive out of newly tested people. This is still the primary way DHS is sharing the metric. It's also the preferred way to calculate percent positive according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

By including just new tests, this calculation takes out the repeat testers that, for example, may be tested because of their job or because they live in a nursing home with at least one case.
Today, DHS has added a separate line to the below chart that also includes the percent positive based on all tests. As you can see, the two lines have diverged over time. As more people get tested, the chances of some people getting tested multiple times goes up.

There are currently 21,004 active cases in the state.
So far, there have been a total of 122,274 cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin.
The patient has recovered in about 82% of all cases (99,925 cases). Patients who are deemed as recovered either no longer exhibit the symptoms of COVID-19 or 30 days has passed since they tested positive. In the remaining 1,327 cases, the patient is deceased.
Below, we've pulled out just new cases data for Milwaukee County to get a closer look at how the county is trending. In the last week, the county has averaged 256 new cases per day.

The state had more than double the number of deaths this week as there were last week. In the last 7 days, a total of 68 people have died. Two weeks ago, a total of 31 people had died.
Milwaukee County has the highest number of deaths of all counties with 532. Other counties with more than 30 deaths are Racine (98), Waukesha (90), Kenosha (68), Brown (65), Dane (43), Walworth (34), Washington (34), Rock (32) and Outagamie (30).

The state can currently handle a capacity of 39,159 tests daily spread across 115 labs. An additional 22 labs are being on-boarded.

Anyone who wants a test should be able to get one, either from their primary care physician or one of a number of community testing sites. If you are exhibiting any of these symptoms, it is recommended that you get tested. Here are your options:
- Contact your primary care doctor and ask to be tested.
- Complete an online health screening assessment, and a licensed health practitioner will contact you.
- See if a community testing site is available near you.
As continues to be the case, the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to limit time in public places where you could be exposed to people outside your household. If you need to be in public, please practice social distancing (space of more than 6 ft. between you and others), wear a mask or face covering when possible and practice good hygiene (washing hands after any exposure events may have taken place).
