If you follow this blog, you may have noticed my posts have become fewer as of late. graduate school kind of has that effect. Speaking of which, I am gearing up to finish with that journey in spring of 2019. The future path for me remains a bit of a mystery—but as always—I am keeping an open mind and heart for what may lie ahead.
I’ve decided to retire this blog as I do this and am grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to explore some far-out places and states-of-mind in this particular venue. Off the Beaten Path has come to encompass all sorts of terrain for me: from New Orleans to Niagara Falls, or one of Wisconsin’s many wonderful state parks and hiking trails. Mourning the loss of a beloved pet, or the loss of life for a young stranger traveling abroad, have been stories I’ve explored. These and celebrating graduation to a next stage of life are all treks that I’ve taken here with you.
It all started with a retreat—something I will continue to enjoy in one form or another for many years to come. A time when I can recharge my batteries, breathe and take stock. As I begin one of my last winter breaks at Marquette University, I feel especially reflective. A very vital chapter of my life is about to turn the last page, and I am on the verge of a whole new trip. This is one that I don’t have the roadmap for, but I’ve certainly picked up some valuable travel tips and had some good company along the way.
It all is sort of reminiscent of a dream I had: hiking and hiking through endless fields of green, with birds and flowers and wildlife in abundance, making my way through lush forests where the sun still peeks through the treetops and the wind still whispers through the impossibly towering pines. I feel the soft earth beneath my boots and can even hear some running water nearby. This is where the four elements come together, united with my spirit, making it sing in tandem. When I hike in real life and think of this dream, and recall this feeling, I can’t help but feel renewed hope.
Thank you for coming along for the ride with me, happy campers. Stay tuned for more adventures, on another scenic road. Wherever that may be.
