"And On Earth Be Peace" presented by Chant Claire Chamber Choir

St. Sebastian Church 5400 W. Washington Blvd., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53208
Chant Claire Chamber Choir is a Milwaukee choir dedicated to bringing challenging, high-quality choral music to singers and audiences in Southeast Wisconsin. Our mission is to create authentic music while fostering an authentic community.
The theme for our December concert comes from the Christmas proclamation: "Glory to God in the Highest: And on Earth Be Peace." This year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and the 200th anniversary of the composition of “Silent Night.” Within the first months of World War I, this carol was sung together by soldiers on both sides of the front during the Christmas Truce of 1914-a momentary glimpse of peace in the midst of the darkness and carnage of the War. 2018 is also the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. The first half of our concert centers around Parry’s a cappella magnum opus, “Songs of Farewell,” which was composed during the First World War and the final years of the composer’s life. It will also feature his ceremonial pieces "I Was Glad" and "Jerusalem," both heard at the Royal wedding in 2011. The second half of the concert expresses a longing for peace during this season with unique settings of favorite Christmas carols and additional repertoire fitting the season.
Join us on Saturday, December 15th at 7pm at St. Sebastian Catholic Church at 5400 W. Washington Blvd., Milwaukee. Seating is first-come, first-serve general admission with a suggested $10 donation. Preferred seating for the concert will be available for a donation of $20+ at www.chantclaire.org/donations. See our Facebook page for more details.
