IndependenceFirst Empower Lunch

The IndependenceFirst Empower Lunch Gala is back! The 2018 Empower Lunch will feature a keynote address by Will Lautzenheiser, subject of the award-winning documentary “Stumped.” The event will also include a raffle auction, networking and lunch.

The Empower Lunch supports IndependenceFirst’s work facilitating the empowerment of individuals with disabilities and our vision for full inclusion of people with disabilities in every aspect of the community.

The keynote address delivered by Will Lautzenheiser will cover his journey following a quadruple amputation after a severe bacterial infection caused extensive tissue damage in his limbs. He embarked on a long recovery process, and eventually decided to undergo a double arm transplant, which was successful. Attendees will learn more about Will’s journey from university professor to stand-up comedian after he experienced the fight for his life. Through his journey, Will has learned, “The world does not accommodate disability, so it’s important to be visible, to advocate for changes, to increase accessibility—doing so is a social good for everyone.”
