About the artist:
Vanessa German is a visual and performance artist based in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood. She is the founder of Love Front Porch and the ARThouse, a community arts initiative for the children of Homewood. Her work has been exhibited widely, most recently at the Carl Hammer Gallery in Chicago and the Studio Museum in Harlem, and she has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning and NPR’s All Things Considered, and in the Huffington Post, O Magazine, and elsewhere. A nationally recognized spoken word artist who performs "Spoken Word Operas," German is the recipient of a 2015 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, the 2017 Jacob Lawrence Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and a 2018 United States Artist Grant. Her visual art is in private and public collections including Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY; the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA; Flint Institute of Arts in Flint, MI, Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, GA; the David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the Visual Arts and Culture of African Americans and the African Diasopora at the University of Maryland, College Park; and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Harford, CT, among other places. She is represented by Pavel Zoubok Gallery in New York.
