For Baby Boomers and GenXers, It’s Saturday Morning! will be a nostalgic look at the cartoons that entertained them and, perhaps, shaped their imaginations. Some 30 network television shows from four decades are examined and shown in full-color stills. Among them, “The Flintstones” (1960-1970), the first prime-time animated series, which captured adult eyes for its “right blend of satire, slapstick, and well-crafted characters” as the authors put it. Next stop, “The Simpsons”? Not everything included in It’s Saturday Morning! was fully animated unless you consider the hyperactive Pee-wee Herman as an example of real-life animation. It’s a fun read, but most everyone will miss one favorite or another. Where’s “Rocky and Bullwinkle”?
