Stone Creek Coffee (Factory Cafe) 422 N. 5th St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53203
Join us as we host a local event participating in international celebration of World Philosophy Day - "Civility in Disagreement: Promoting Civil Discourse in Times of Conflict."
Andi Sciacca, Kreigh Knerr, and Greg Sadler will lead a series of 20-minute workshops focused on how to disagree civilly and effectively with others. These workshops draw on perennial philosophical resources particularly useful in contemporary situations. We will also have 30 minutes available for general Q&A and discussion.
These workshops and discussions will take place at the Stone Creek Factory Café on 5th Street, in the upstairs Tasting Room. Coffee will be provided for participants. An elevator is also available and there is a stair-lift at the entrance.
The three workshops will be:
• Keeping Your Cool: Understanding and Managing Anger – Greg Sadler
• Workplace Disagreements: Civility on the Job – Andi Sciacca
• Conversation Shift: Knowing the Good from the Bad – Kreigh Knerr
SOPHIA is an organization dedicated to building communities of philosophical conversation. It brings specialists in philosophy together with community members, lifelong learners, teachers and students, to engage in philosophy in public and practical ways. The local chapter of SOPHIA organizes public philosophy events and workshops for the Greater Milwaukee area.
By celebrating World Philosophy Day each year, on the third Thursday of November, UNESCO underlines the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.
