Come spend an evening with costume designer Ruth Carter as she shares how she developed the costumes for the blockbuster film Black Panther and other movies. Carter used many designs which were based on traditional African attire. In addition, she brought a new view to the female character’s costume designs, to shake up the tradition of the female super hero in high heels and skin-baring outfits. In this way, Carter contributed to the female characters in Black Panther being among the most memorable and beloved. Carter has also received Oscar nominations for costume design for Steven Spielberg’s Amistad and Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, and has worked on other films including Selma, Marshall and The Butler. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear this amazing artist speak on her work!
