Over the last 15 years, Trampled by Turtles have become a phenomenon, gaining a cult-like following with their signature blend of rock, folk, punk, country, and their own unique take on progressive bluegrass. Undoubtedly, the band’s charm sparks from how dynamic they are. While their songs are musically upbeat, frontman Dave Simonett’s lyrics are poignant, deeply expressive, and sometimes gut-wrenching; two factors that combined, make for a live show that is affecting, emotional, and powerful enough to transfer the energy from the stage to the crowd.
In May, they made their epic return with Life Is Good On The Open Road, their first release in four years. Spanning from tender ballads to driving boot-stompers, sometimes even on the same track, the album showcases the band’s musical versatility and lyrical depth via 12 originals written by Simonett. No Depression said, "The songs are equal parts infectious and poignant, as are many Simonett-penned offerings… cutting melodies with stabbing lyrics are abundant.” For longtime Trampled By Turtles fans, Life Is Good On The Open Road serves as a welcome return to form; for those who are just being introduced, it’s the perfect opportunity to hear the band’s full depth. The Associated Press said, "They are American originals, still exploring and still delivering moody, evocative music.”
