Between Land and Sea
Mambo Cool
This closeup look at the underside of urban Colombia lacks a plotline but is a sequence of monologues and dialogues from the downtrodden. They are in jail or in squalor, cooking or selling cocaine and trying to get by. Director Chris Gude composes his frames carefully with faces often half in shadow against hard surfaces. Stylistically, he achieves a kind of contemporary film noir in color. The terse dialogue is almost poetic in its compression.
Us Festival: 1982 The Us Generation
The 1982 Us Festival was a groundbreaking extravaganza that brought together two generations of rock bands in many genres. Where else would The Ramones share the same bill with Fleetwood Mac? The making-of portions of Glenn Aveni’s documentary were just as interesting as the concert footage. Apple titan-turned-promoter Steve Wozniak looked back on the chaos of Woodstock and wanted to do it right this time. He spent liberally. The bands never had a better paying gig.
Between Land and Sea

In his rambling documentary, director Ross Whitaker takes a close look into the lives of those wave-riding adventurers from a postcard Irish town, polishing their boards and seeking to monetize their passion.
