For a catering company, to own a banquet hall is a logical business expansion, as when Seasoned With Grace Catering acted logically and opened the Comfort Zone (5526 W. Fond du Lac Ave.) in 2016.
Apart from being a commodious and, yes, comfortable venue for baby showers, wedding receptions, dances and the occasional Southern soul concert, some of the catering that helped purchase the Comfort Zone is available on premises. As is the case at several other inner city eateries, soul food comprises the bill of fare come Sunday afternoon here.
Among entrees changing weekly, fried chicken comes in monstrous, tender white meat fingers. Sides for a recent meal included scrumptious sliced sweet potatoes and delightful stewed turnip greens (collards are more common at dedicated area soul food restaurants). Rounding out that already well-rounded repast are a couple of complimentary extras offered with every soulful plate.
There's no need to ask what's for dessert, as dinner came with a slice of chocolate cake so mouthwateringly moist that icing on it might be overkill.
Catfish, tacos and other easily-prepared items may be offered during weeknights, when the 'Zone is open to the public for other events. But its unique spin on soulful Southern goodness is a fun, filling way to begin the week.
