Early this year, Divino Wine & Dine (2315 N. Murray Ave.) changed hands and became Tavolino—just in time for COVID-19. The Shelter at Home order didn’t stop new owners Peter Dietrich and veteran chef Derek Nackers from refurbishing the East Side venue (it was Palermo Villa for many years) and updating the menu to a more contemporary Italian roster of antipasti, salata, spegheto, desserts and—the mainstay for many dinners—pizza. The 12 and 16 inchers ($14-$21) are based on the Divino recipe but somehow tasted even slightly better at a recent visit, The hearty (but not too thick) crust is slathered with sauce and cheese, flecked with bits of carrot and red pepper and can be topped with all the usual choices plus some irregular ones (cream cheese?). Try ordering a pizza with giardiniera for a tart accent. Tavolino offers a full bar and full wine and beer lists. Dine outside on the deck or in the dining room (open to the air on warm evenings) or order carry-out or curbside.
