Wowwy zowwy! Milwaukee is loaded with spooky selections where Halloween haunts are concerned! From costume contests and beer busts to brunch and ballet, the city is swarming with spine-tingling soirees sure to spice up your calendar.
We’ll skip my advice column this week because I’ve assembled quite an eerily impressive list of LGBTQ-friendly events for your Halloween considerations.
Join me for a family friendly brunch at Hamburger Mary’s (Oct. 29), check out the costume contest I’m hosting at Kruz (Oct. 31) or simply hit up any of the frightening yet fantastic events listed in my social calendar below, and I’ll see you out and about this Halloween!
Ruthie’s Social Calendar
October 27: Mania: Halloween Special at This Is It (418 E. Wells St.): Melee the Queen and Malaiya Marvel host this wild night of drag. The 10 p.m. Halloween edition not only includes a costume contest but serves up extra-special guest Trixie Mattel! Sorry kids but this is a 21+ event. Arrive before 10 p.m., and you’ll avoid a $7 cover charge.
October 28—Zombie Shenanigans/M.O.B. Beer Bust at Kruz (354 E. National Ave.): The guys at Milwaukee Organized Bears (M.O.B.) host this monthly beer bust that’s sure to shake up your Halloween plans. Kick off the wicked weekend with the 5-9 p.m. party that includes raffle prizes, shot specials, hot bears and more. Come in costume and/or donate nonperishable foods and personal hygiene items (for the LGBTQ+ Community Center Food Pantry) and receive a few free raffle tickets.
October 28—Tricks & Treats Dance Party at Woody’s (1579 S. Second St.): Make Milwaukee’s LGBTQ+ sports bar a stop on your Halloween haunt this year! The party and DJ start at 7 p.m., so grab your Hallows Eve finest and you dancing shoes and head out to Woody’s.
October 28— Hero vs Villain Halloween Party Costume Contest at MKE LGBT Community Center (315 W. Court St.): Hit up this bash at 9 p.m. and enjoy free food, a DJ, dancing, costume contest and more. The theme is heroes and villains but feel to wear whatever spooky suit fits you best!
October 28—Vampire Bash at Marcus Performing Arts Center (929 N. Water St.): Who doesn’t love a sexy vampire? Get your blood pumping at this undead event that takes place immediately after the enchanting ballet Dracula(about 10 p.m.). You need ballet tickets to enter the after-show party, so take a bite out of the weekend by reserving seats via www.milwaukeeballet.org.
October 28 & October 29—“The Nightmare Before Christmas with Orchestra” at Bradley Symphony Center (212 W. Wisconsin Ave.): Take Halloween to a new level with a special viewing of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Enjoy the charming cult-classic film as it plays on the big screen while the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performs the incredible soundtrack live. Visit www.mso.org for more.
October 29—Ruthie’s Spooktacular Brunch at Hamburger Mary’s (730 S. Fifth St.): Join me and The Brunchettes for two boo-tiful shows (11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.). The family-friendly afternoon dishes out a touch of sass alongside Mary’s popular brunch menu, bottomless mimosas and more. I’ll see you there but be sure to make a reservation at www.hamburgermarys.com/mke.
October 29—Closing Night Torch Song at Inspiration Studios (1500 S. 73rd St.): Harvey Fierstein’s legendary show returns to Milwaukee thanks to this production from the team at Theatrical Tendencies. Social media influencer Kjeezy87 takes this lead in this must-see show that’s become a much-loved staple in the LGBTQ+ community. Swing by www.theatricaltendencies.com for tickets.
October 31—Halloween Party & Costume Contest at Kruz (354 E. National Ave.): For years, Kruz has been the place to be on Halloween night! See why (and check out the jaw-dropping decorations) when you join me at this scary soiree. The party starts at 8 p.m., and I’ll emcee the popular costume contest where you could nab hundreds of dollars in prize money! See you there!
