West Bend's Museum of Wisconsin Art commits to collecting, conserving, documenting and exhibiting the best in regional art from the entire state. This includes the largest collection of artwork from European trained Carl von Marr, especially his 1889 masterpiece, The Flagellants, together with Early Wisconsin Regional Art. The main gallery focuses extensively on various historical and contemporary Wisconsin artists in every medium and genre, often uncovering historical collections, representing avant-garde artwork or highlighting unfamiliar names with an extensive Art Archives on their lower level. New educational programming includes artist's lectures, Art in Action on the third Saturday of every month for families, and The Moment, lively discourse and inspiration on the fourth Thursday every other month. The museum is planning in the future to construct a completely new building housing modern archival technology for documenting and preserving their valuable Wisconsin Art collections along with a new gift shop, café and patio.
