The Resonance label has issued a half-dozen albums of previously unknown material by Wes Montgomery. The 12 tracks on Wes’ Best are culled from those collections. The fast-fingered electric guitarist who set the instrument’s direction in jazz (and beyond) was emotionally engaged as well as proficient, melodically inventive and sharply precise yet capable of playfulness.
