Summerfest has been teasing plans for a new amphitheater, and today the festival revealed its renderings for the $50 million project.
Set to debut in 2020, the new American Family Insurance Amphitheater will feature "a new seating bowl configuration and raised stage to allow for better sight lines, enhanced accessibility, expanded concourses, new video screens, reimagined food and beverage operations, new VIP hospitality areas, additional restrooms, and much more," according to the festival.
Construction will happen in two phases. The first stage will be completed by next year's Summerfest. The amphitheater's roof will be lifted to 65 feet and the stage will be reconfigured. The backstage building will be rebuilt as well.
The second phase will begin immediately after 2019's Summerfest ends and will involve the construction of new restrooms, new seats, hospitality areas and food and beverage stands. The grand opening of the new American Family Insurance Amphitheater is scheduled for Summerfest 2020.
