Thursday, June 11 is Milwaukee’s Bike to Work Day. The ride is free and open to everyone. Cyclists will meet at the Humboldt Park Pavilion, at 7 a.m., with the ride starting at 7:15. Bikers will ride about five miles to Clas Park and a 30-minute reception for participants will follow the ride at 8 a.m.
Biking to work is a great way to help the environment, save money on gas and get fit. When people use alternative means to get to work they reduce their carbon footprint. Milwaukee has been embracing biking for years now, with our Bublr bike-share program and our Wisconsin Bike Week. This celebration of biking to work is just another example.
“Bike to Work Day demonstrates that bicycling is a viable and environmentally sound form of transportation,” said Milwaukee County Parks Director John Dargle Jr. “Whether for commuting, exercise or fun, the nearly 120 miles of Oak Leaf Recreational Trail make cycling, as part of a daily routine, a real possibility!”
The program on a national level has been around for decades with many major cities participating.
Participants are encouraged to register at tinyurl.com/B2WD-MKECo to be notified of any changes or weather cancellations.
