Each year, the Shepherd Express’ Best of Milwaukee poll gives our readers an opportunity to tell us—and the world—what you love about Milwaukee. And now, as much as ever before, there is a lot to love in our city, which has seen remarkable growth in locally owned restaurants, shops and other entrepreneurial endeavors, as well as initiatives by public and other civic leaders.

In recent years, other “Bests of” have cropped up in Milwaukee, but ours was the first, initiated decades before other media followed us. It remains the most comprehensive for drawing on you—a readership active in the community and aware of what makes Milwaukee a great place in which to live and work.

With the Democratic National Convention this summer, the eyes of the world will be on Milwaukee. With the Best of Milwaukee, our readers have the last word on a hometown that has become a model for other cities across the U.S.

HOW IT WORKS: The Best of Milwaukee Readers' Choice Contest is a program that's open to the public. The nomination period for the 2019 edition of the contest ran Sept. 19-Oct. 17, 2019. During that period, readers had an opportunity to nominate their favorite entrees in over 300 categories in an open-ended format. Readers were allowed one nomination per category and nominations were accepted via printed ballot in the paper (Sept. 19 Print Edition) and through an online ballot located at ShepherdExpress.com/BOM19. Top nominated entrees move to the Final Round which ran Nov. 7-Dec. 5, 2019. The Final Round ballot is multiple choice in each category. Top vote-getters in each category are recognized as the Best of Milwaukee. Winners are also recognized at the Best of Milwaukee Party held annually in January.
