Rachel: Describe your current look, in three words.
Lou: Affordable, low-maintenance, comfy!

R: Do you have a “style philosophy?”
L: My “style philosophy” I guess would be to represent myself. I never wear clothes that have big logos or emblems of companies from which they were made. I don’t like being a walking billboard.

R: What do you consider/think about when getting dressed in the morning or putting an ensemble together?
L: Well, honestly most of the time I’m in a rush to get to work on time. But when I do have time, I really like to wear simple clothes, nothing too flashy or with too much design. I have a lot of solid color clothes or clothes with simple patterns and fabrics.

R: What is your favorite place to shop for garments and accessories in Milwaukee?
L: I’m all about the bargains. I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything at full price. You can find a lot of great stuff if you look hard enough at resale stores too. I tend to go to Goodwill a lot or that Retique store in the Third Ward. I don’t like shopping online because you only get to see a picture and hope for the best when it gets shipped to you in the next 7-to-10 business days. Plus going out and exploring all of the great small businesses Milwaukee has is always an adventure!

R: Are you aware that handkerchiefs are “message-sending symbols” in certain sub-cultures? If yours had a message, what would it be?
L: Haha! I actually got this hanky from Rochambo Coffee & Tea House. I went in there looking for a shirt I had lost and when the owner took me to the lost-and-found, he was like, “Here, take this!” and threw it at my face. So I was like, “Saweet!” So, I guess in that case it represents “unintentional theft”; however, it is a patriotic hanky, so I’d say “Freedom” (my regards to the former owner). But no messages other than that!

R: What or who are some of the sources of your inspiration?
L: I am inspired by people who are themselves. When I see previous shoots of people on this blog, I am inspired by their creativity and self-identity, but it doesn’t necessarily mean I want to dress like them. I totally dig when people are comfortable with who they are and how they represent themselves. For example, today at work a girl walked in wearing a furry horse onesie suit and didn’t give any craps—it was pretty cool.
