Years ago, the Milwaukee Rep did a charming country/western musical called Lana Mae’s Honky Tonk Laundry. Roger Bean’s musical set in the “Wishy Washy Washeteria” may be long gone, but the laundromat-based musical lives on this summer in Suds the Musical.
The musical tells the story of a quirky, ambitious laundromat worker has a run-in with her guardian angels: Marge and Dee Dee. Sounds like fun. Where Bean’s musical was a tribute to old country pop tunes, Suds the Musical is a tribute to ’60s pop including “Help Me Girl, You Can’t Hurry Love”, “Don’t Make Me Over”, “Anyone Whoever Had a Heart”, “R.E.S.P.E.C.T” and “These Boots Were Made for Walkin’” and more.
UW-Whitewater’s Theatre/Dance Department brings the musical to life Jul. 14 - 19 at the Hicklin Studio Theatre. For more information, visit UW-Whitwater Theatre/Dance Department online.
